MN has several thousand bass angler and the MN State Bass Federation ( www.MNBF.org ) only has about 500-600 members. It has always struck me as a bit odd. So what are your thoughts on why one would not join a bass club. And this is pretty much the same all over the country.

There are no Junior clubs in my area. They are all the way across the state. I have emailed a few local clubs and I have to be 16 years old, and I'm only 15.

That is too bad, my suggestion would be to keep fishing hard and join one of those clubs when you turn 16 Once you are a member, maybe you can help start an initiative to start a Jr. club for the youth coming up behind you in your area.

Joining a Bass Club is the best way to increase your fishing skills. Make sure you join a club that is interested in teaching you more about bass fishing. And also save your money so you can buy the president many many Blizzards....I have bought Rich several...

I went to my dads club meetings when I was a little fella. Most of the meetings were pretty fun. All the tournaments were for trophies and no money was paid out with the exception of the classic. The infighting got to the point that the club disbaned. This fighting put my father agaist tournaments all together, and influnced me greatly. I was well into my 20's before I fished even a wildcat. Then I was Hooked (pardon the pun). I got my father back into fishing these, and we are even joining a club this year. I guess the fighting and injury is kind of like Church.

Clubs are only as the members that they have and it often is a top down mentality if the president is overly competitive and pig-headed more often then not it will not be a very friendly club or good learning envirnment

i have been a member of several clubs in the past 8 years. after the bass/flw split it was kind of the last straw for me with clubs. also the clubs kept adding more and more tournaments to fish which were on dates that bfl or the weekend series was on. doug

I fished in a club for the last few years and had fun. This year, I have decided to drop out. It has to do with the scheduling of the state tournament. I am a teacher & the tournament is the first week school. If the federation could come up with some sort of date rotation, at least I could then maybe fish it sometimes.

The TOC is not the only reason to join and fish a club. I know many people would like to see a shift in dates, but the membership keeps voting it down. And this year the latest proposal did not even get presented at the meeting, so now it will have to wait until next year. You just need to remember its not the board, its the members that need to bring forward the proposals and vote on it
