I had two tournaments this past weekend. The Priest tournament was nearly mistake free but the Old Hickory tournament had too many mistakes which lead to my 1st zero in about 3 years.
Saturday F-3 fished out of Hurricane creek on Percy Priest. I had planned on heading up river to fish a favorite ledge but as I was making the bend around Spring Creek something told me to stop at a ledge/hump. I am glad I did. I had 7 keepers there on jigs and my best 5 was 12.17lbs which was more then enough for 1st. My non-boater partner was actually 2nd with almost 4lbs. Tough to catch fish in 95 degree water. That tournament put me roughly 42 lbs ahead of 2nd place.
Sunday was mistake laden as I fished the Flippers Sunday morning tournament on Old Hickory. 1st mistake was not following my instincts and not stopping in an area I let a friend have, which he had a nice limit out of. Anyhow I shot up river to a creek mouth and commenced to break off on a big fish due to trying to horse him in the boat. Later I lost another 4-5 pound bass making a stupid cross over move with a crankbait, DT10. Then I got so frustrated I didn't concentrate and let it get to me. Live and learn!
