Good couple of good days fishing Pickwick Lake in the Bassboat Central Southern Rally on March 19 & 20. Estimate a total of about 20 brown fish (smallies), 2 largemouth, 1 spotted bass & a load of white bass, in the 2-3lb range, in 2 days of fishing.
The Tennessee River was stained, close to muddy actually, & the current was ripping at a pretty good pace. All fish came off of Seven Mile Island, mostly the east end (toward McFarland) on the navigation channel right bank. We started at the point of Seven Mile Island & made repeated drifts downstream. The estimated river level was 414 feet. The fish were located between the riprap & first break in the eddies. The lures that produced were a chartreuse craw & a Bumble Bee Bandit 200. We had to cast downstream at about a 10-11 o'clock angle & retrieve into the current about a 1/3 speed of what we would normally crank it. The lure would be almost straight out by the time they got it back in. Rumor one was lost bigger than the 5lbr they boated.
